On March 31, 1991, the Georgian people are finally freed from the Soviet oppression, since then the walls begin to "speak" and the graffiti spread everywhere. Today, local and international artists use these walls again to express their art and ideas: they challenge each other with paint and many other techniques. And what is the result? A city full of colour that is constantly renewing itself artistically.
The center of this artistic explosion is the hostel Fabrika. During Soviet rule it was a textile workshop, then it was transformed into a hostel and a meeting place for artists from all over the world. But it is more than a hostel: in the courtyard there are several pubs, a hairdresser and various workspaces with laboratories and classrooms. The art on the walls remains the main attraction, making Fabrika a must-see on any Tbilisi tour.
One of the most important museums outside of Tbilisi is located in Telavi, a 2-hour drive from the city of Tbilisi in the region of Kakheti. The history museum is located in the park of the old royal palace, which today consists of the main building and two churches. The original structure of the palace can be explored, from the bedrooms to the throne room overlooking the park. The Art Museum in the same park houses a collection of paintings left to the city as a legacy by a Georgian woman.
The second part of the Georgia diary ends here. The next story will be about food and animals, the real Georgian attractions!
