Seville, a weekend in the Andalusian capital!

Published on 30 December 2024 at 14:00

Seville 's Cathedral

The Cathedral of Seville is one of the most iconic landmarks of the city and a masterpiece of Gothic architecture. Known as the largest Gothic cathedral in the world, it houses priceless treasures, such as the magnificent main altar and the presumed tomb of Christopher Columbus. Built on the site of an ancient mosque, it reflects the encounter between different cultures. A visit to the Giralda, the former minaret now turned bell tower, is a must, offering spectacular views of Seville. The cathedral is a place of extraordinary beauty and spirituality, showcasing centuries of history and art. Visitors are captivated by its grandeur and intricate details, making it a unique monument. It is an essential stop for anyone wishing to experience the true heart of the city.

The Real Alcázar

The Real Alcázar of Seville is a true historical gem and one of the most captivating places in Spain. Originally built as a Muslim fortress in the 10th century, it later transformed into a unique royal palace blending Islamic and Christian art. Today, it’s still used by the Spanish royal family when they visit Seville. Strolling through its richly decorated halls, the Patio de las Doncellas, and its stunning gardens filled with fountains and orange trees feels like stepping back in time. It’s a must-see for anyone visiting the city, offering a magical taste of Andalusia. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Real Alcázar is an unforgettable experience combining history, art, and beauty in one extraordinary place.

Plaza de España

The Plaza de España in Seville is a masterpiece of elegance and charm. Built for the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition, this semi-circular square blends Spanish architectural styles with bridges, mosaics, and a stunning central fountain. Its portico, decorated with azulejos, represents all the provinces of Spain, making it a tribute to the country’s unity. It’s the perfect spot for a stroll, a boat ride along the canal, or simply soaking up the sun. At night, with lights reflecting on the water, it becomes even more magical. Located in the heart of María Luisa Park, it’s a green oasis ideal for nature and tranquility lovers. In short, if you’re visiting Seville, the Plaza de España is a must-see for its art, history, and unique atmosphere!

Another full weekend: more than 55 kilometres walked around the streets of Seville with multiple stops in the tapas bars, some sunshine in December but more importantly another city added to the personal map. Now it's time to rest and enojy the holydays waiting for 2025, where I'll embark on the longest trip of my life so far: Japan! See you in the next trip!
